This puzzle stumped quite a few readers who wrote and asked for
some extra clues. However, a second try and some rethinking helped
and solutions and messages began to come in to us. The problem was
very popular with our users who let us know that they found being
able to place and move the numbers very helpful. One problem solver
reported, "I really enjoy the interactive fun".
You could not assume that you had a line correct because one
triangle filled with colour. To solve this problem you had to make
sure all of the parts worked in conjunction with each other. There
was more than one correct solution found. Two of them are below.
