This interactive problem will help children who are working on number bonds to ten. For children who are fluent with the combinations to ten, this problem is still very relevant because of the logic element. Simply finding one pair of numbers that total ten will not help in finishing the entire task. To build the complete triangle means that the set of correct combinations have to be chosen. This is the real challenge! It will probably take several attempts by the children; however, the interactivity will be sure to hold their attention and increase their persistence and perseverance.
Encouraging the children to talk about the strategies they are using -- whether guess and check or a more systematic approach to the big problem -- will assist those children who are focussing on the individual elements of the problem.
