</mdo:flash>

With the new year underway business at Granma T's is slowly gathering pace. Small jobs here, deliveries there and the first big removal is underway.

Mr Cheung, the local restaurateur is closing down his old restaurant. He and his family are moving 'lock, stock and barrel' onto the main island in the bay. There, he is opening his new restaurant under the name of 'Gat Marn'.

The children and all the workmen are already there.

Little Fung is packing away into trunks as quickly as possible, all the plates, bowls and glasses as well as the cutlery. She is being extra careful - all damages have to paid for! Meanwhile, Little Ming is stacking away in crates all the tins of food, packets of vegetables and boxes of fruit. This is a safer chore for him to do as often he has butter fingers!

The men have hopefully finished stacking the furniture ready for stowing it all securely inside the van. The gas, the water and the electricity have all been disconnected.

Everyone must now meet up with Mai Ling at the dockside as only she knows where Mr Cheung's new business is to be found.

She also has the ferry tickets.

In the meantime, complete the silhouette of the junk they are about to sail in.

More activities can be found in the notes .

The story continues in World of Tan 7 - Gat Marn .

<mdoxml version="1.0">Pupils: You may like to

complete the silhouette of the junk they are about to sail
in.

investigate, using Polydron or something similar, what solids
will stack construct the highest tower you can using multilink with
a base of one cube then try two cubes, three....

estimate then work out how many pennies would be needed to make
a tower one metre high. How costly will it be?

Parents: You may like to:

investigate the names and their origins of local Chinese and
Cantonese restaurants and Take Aways found within your
locality.

explain the difference between Chinese and Cantonese
establishments.

discuss the sort of items found in Oriental restaurants or Take
Aways.

discuss the sort of containers used for packaging food, then
have a purposeful look around the local supermarket at which
packages are used and which stack best.

Teachers: You may like to:

bring together a collection of containers and packets used in
the home and investigate the different ways these can be sorted and
ordered.

consider the meaning and derivation of the terms 'lock, stock
and barrel' and 'butter fingers'. Are there other similar sayings
that we use?

investigate which solids (apart from cubes) will stack?

design a container, with the smallest surface area, that will
hold exactly 1 kilo of rice.
