An interactive afternoon with Dr Jenni Back containing a mix of input, discussion and activities plus reflecting on some relevant research.

Date: 14 December 2012

Aims: to reflect on and debate what are the foundations for strong mathematical learning and the place of models and images

Jenni will draw on some evidence from a research project in Hungary, looking at how young children begin to learn mathematics and the significance of models and images. Some evidence from video of Hungarian lessons will be presented and questions will be raised about how to manage to challenge and involve all learners in mathematical thinking and reasoning.

This symposium builds on Jenni’s session that she gave on June 19 and September 19 to the MaST graduates and students.
