What can you find on the site?</h3>
<br />
NRICH is the home of rich mathematics. Our site is full of problems, games and articles for students working independently or with support.<br />
<h4>
        <br />
        What is a problem?</h4>
Problems can have one or more purposes:<br />
<ul>
        <li>
                some are designed to encourage you to develop mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills by applying your knowledge to novel, interesting and challenging situations,</li>
        <li>
                some problems offer opportunities to learn some new mathematics as you work through the problem-solving process,</li>
        <li>
                others require problem solvers to bring together a range of mathematical ideas and techniques in order to make progress.</li>
</ul>
Many of the problems on the site can be extended well beyond the basic task and should be seen as a starting point for maths investigation and discovery. Hints are there to support those who are finding it hard to get started.<br />
<br />
Our tasks are grouped together in Collections. These groupings are determined by:
<ul>
        <li>
                mathematical content</li>
        <li>
                and mathematical process</li>
        <li>
                and type of activity ( problem, game, article)</li>
        <li>
                and age range</li>
        <li>
                and other specialist or age specific titles, such as STEM</li>
</ul>
which means that any one task might appear in several Collections.<br />
<br />
At any time you visit the site we will be featuring several student Collections and a small number of problems from each of those will be Open for Solutions. We don't include solutions to problems when they are first published but we do encourage you to send us their solutions. We edit and publish extracts from them later. The closing date for these will be advertised and we will collate the entries and publish them shortly after the closing date.<br />
<br />
This article, <a href="/7503">I've Submitted a Solution - What Next?</a>, explains the process we use to decide which solutions to publish.<br />
<h4>
        <br />
        Which problems are for me?</h4>
A good starting point is your age. Our problems are grouped into lower and upper primary, lower and upper secondary and of course you may wish to look at problems for the grouping above and below your own.<br />
<br />
<strong>What do the stars mean?</strong><br />
The stars indicate the point of entry of the problem. They don't however indicate how far you can go! <br />
<br />
* Easy to get started with, although often very rich<br />
** Harder to get started, but again often very rich<br />
*** Very challenging problems - difficult or involved.<br />
<br />
<h4>
        <br />
        What's in a game?</h4>
Most of our games are strategy games. Many of them double up as consolidation activities. Through others you may learn something new.<br />
<h4>
        <br />
        What articles will I find?</h4>
Our articles are for teachers and older pupils. Some are about mathematical ideas, some are about the history of mathematics, and others are about ways to learn a particular topic or idea.<br />
<br />
<strong>Finding what you're looking for...</strong><br />
<br />
to be completed ...<br />
