Primary Mathematics Leaders Day 3 on 12 March 2013

This engaging and stimulating day is for MaST graduates and students plus Mathematics Subject Leaders in school. It is part of the NRICH Leading Learning: Inspiring Learners series. The second in this series was held on 23 November 2012

This day is suitable for those who attended Day 1 and Day 2 and also stands alone for those who are new to the series. There are just 50 places available.

When:            Tuesday 12 March 2013

Time:             10.00 - 16.00 with coffee and registration from 09.30

Where:          London Mathematical Society, De Morgan House, Russell Square,
                           London WC1B 4HS

Who:              MaST graduates and students plus Mathematics Subject Leaders

Investment:     £95 per delegate

Aim:               To support MaST teachers and Mathematics Leaders in nurturing
                       confident, resourceful and enthusiastic teachers and learners of mathematics
                       in their schools.


About the day: The day is a mix of plenary speaker sessions, group discussion and workshops. The day will be highly interactive and will respond to the issues and concerns identified by delegates.

• Be inspired about how to develop rich mathematical learning across your school.
• Enrich and extend your mathematics provision.
• Consider the implications of research findings on children’s mathematical learning.
• Come away with strategies to support you in developing mathematical classrooms of enquiry and challenge.

Speakers: The NRICH Primary Team at the University of Cambridge. The team are primary mathematics and leadership specialists who are committed to enriching the experience of the mathematics curriculum for all learners. Detailed biographies and photographs of  the speakers can be found here.

10.00 -  10.15       Introduction and Welcome

10.15  - 11.30       Opening up the Primary curriculum
                              Understanding key ideas, connections and links             Lynne

     An opportunity to unpack the new draft primary curriculum including
                              doing some mathematics together.

11.30 – 11.45       Coffee

11.45 – 13.00      Exploring the power of groupworthy tasks to support children's
                              successful mathematical development                            Jennie

13.00 - 13.45       Lunch

13.45 - 14.45        Workshops: Digging deeper into groupworthy tasks at different stages
                              across the school

15.00 - 16.00      Exploring the concept of fractions through group tasks and talk
